Strategic Communications Leader

About the job

The Big Picture Red Sky is looking for a communications strategist who loves untangling complicated stories and turning them into something brilliant. You’ll be the person who can take dense policy language, technical jargon, and industry details and transform them into narratives that actually connect with people. As a senior member of our team, you’ll be equally comfortable directing client strategy or diving in to craft specialized content and tactics that cut through the noise.

What You’ll Do

  • Craft powerful communication strategies that make complex issues approachable
  • Turn technical gibberish into clear, compelling stories that resonate with specific audiences
  • Be the steady voice clients trust when navigating tricky situations or messaging challenges
  • Create standout written content on tight deadlines – from strategic plans to messaging frameworks
  • Build strong client relationships while flexing between strategic leadership and hands-on content creation
  • Partner across our agency to develop solutions that blend PR, marketing, and issue management
  • Guide and grow team members in the art of strategic planning and complex content development

What You Bring

  • 5+ years in communications with a knack for making difficult subject matter digestible
  • Experience navigating public affairs, policy issues, or niche industry communications
  • Writing skills that make people sit up and take notice, plus the ability to quickly process complicated information
  • A track record of developing and executing strategic communication plans that deliver results
  • Mental agility to jump between different industries, topics, and project needs
  • Cool-headed communication counsel in high-pressure situations
  • Relationship skills that build trust and confidence

Bonus Points For

  • Background in journalism, public affairs, or corporate communications
  • Experience steering clients through crisis situations and issue management
  • Expertise in research and data analysis
  • Knowledge of state processes, public policy, or government affairs
  • A portfolio showcasing your strategic thinking and ability to simplify complex topics
  • Flexibility to tackle time-sensitive projects when clients need you most
